2/2/60 Memorandum for the Record by Evalena Vidal on debriefing on Edward Tichborn.
ONI Files on Lee Harvey Oswald Received by Bud Fensterwald From the Navy Under FOIA in 1974
6/27/60 memo. DIO (District Intelligence Office), Ninth District confidential report serial 02296-E. Peter Dale Scott believes this is "the earliest reference to Harvey Lee Oswald". This document and 6/8/60 DIO Ninth District memo 02049-E were missing from the file, sought on 11/23/63, and did not surface for many years. The ABC initials may have been written by CIA officer Evalena Vidal, using her pseudonym Alice Capanong. The 6/8/60 memo is here: https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=217731&relPageId=11&search=02296 When found, ONI described these June 60 memos as merely "letters of transmittal". https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=217732&search=5520#relPageId=139&tab=page Note that on 6/24/60, the Marines sent LHO notice of his 8/7/60 hearing that was never received and returned "unclaimed" - this resulted in his undesirable discharge and the loss of his benefits. See https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=1136&search=martcom#relPageId=734&tab=page - Also see The Twelve Who Built the Oswald Legend, part 3: https://maryferrell.org/pages/Essay_-_Oswald_Legend_3.html References to both of these June 1960 documents can be found in Scott's book Dallas 63, pp. 103-104. 19 WH 703 references 02296-E. 104-10231-10066: DISPATCH- AMBUD-ACTIVITIES IN ZRMETAlL
4/14/62 memo from PW Alice Caponong to Chief Task Force W William Harvey: AMBUD-1 has a series of meetings with RFK, declares he wants PASSAVOY to continue being his contact. Critical of Goodwin's Cuba policy, which he says amounts to "peaceful coexistence". The first meeting was organized by Hal Hendrix of the Miami Daily News, who has written a series of articles attacking Goodwin for his inexperience and naivete. Refers to an attachment of articles, which can be seen in the succeeding pages. See 1994.08.11.15:54:06:570028: Reel 62, Folder F - CUBAN REVOLUTIONARY COUNCIL (CRC) - GENERAL. Page 65 is the redacted version of the above memo - pp. 69-73 are the news clippings from Hal Hendrix, Don Bohning and others. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=55581&search=%22paragraph_2+of+separate+cover%22#relPageId=69&tab=page
104-10235-10246: AMBUD-1 TOLD FOLLOWING, AMBUD VISITED BY EVELIO DUQUE OF ESCAMBRAY
8/10/62: Evvy writes memo to "Phil" (Bill Kent) about AMBUD-1's meeting with "Evilio Duque of the Escambray, Marcelino Garcia, a CPA named (Jose Ricardo Garciaga - see 1993.08.05.10:41:34:710005, p. 379) and (Jose Luis) Echeveite - about support for Duque and his guerrillas in Cuba. Duque went to Washington recently and spoke with General Taylor. Marginalia states "this (the above statement) is a lie. Nobody saw him or wanted to talk to him." The note concludes: "AMBUD-1/Miro Cardona made no commitments to DUQUE (note Duque was seeking money) and it was left that the latter would await news from AMBUD-1...AMBUD-1 would like our views on the matter. Evvy." See 104-10235-10244, 8/15/62 memo from Charles Gneiting/Thomas Hewitt to Chief, PW, attn: Capanong about Duque: "...(Marcelino Garcia Jiminez) claims to be a CPA and a former business school teacher in Havana. Our records indicate he was one of the original organizers of SIM...Duque was picked up with us again in Feb. 1962 and we worked with him until the end of April of that year..." Gneiting and Charles Masengill had an agreement with Duque in Feb-April 1962 to infiltrate five teams "one at a time" into Cuba, which Duque scuttled on the night before the planned infiltration in late April 1962, accusing them of breaking an agreement to "put all the teams in simultanously"...since then we have had no contact with Duque and want none." Gneiting added that Duque had been assessed with an "extremely low intelligence level" and "no administrative ability".
104-10236-10257: MEMO TO: AMBUD-1CONCERN ABOUT POSSIBLE SECURITY SLIPS INVOLVING STATION PERSONNEL
9/3/62 memo from Alice B. Caponong to C/PM (David Morales), with review initialed by George, Bill, Phil, and "Evvy": "AMBUD-1 told PASSAVOY...there may be leaks through contacts with organizations (groups) of AMBUD...LASAGA had expressed his satisfaction that AMBUD-1 and "the amigos" were in agreement on the Russian troops landings... (Note "Phil" is an alias used by William Kent, you can also see his "T for Trouchard" initial - Trouchard was his pseudonym.) "George" is probably George Joannides - PW was a small section. "Bill" is probably Bill Harvey. Underneath Caponong's name, marginalia states "Evvy (forwarded to PM)".
104-10231-10288: AMTIKI-1, CONTACT
9/11/62, memo from "K", DC/PM to "PW/Evie", Subject: AMTIKI-1 - "ZAMKA/David Morales has had contact with TIKI from the beginning and remains his contact for intel purposes. Graham's contact was made by ZAMKA and is purely for (AMBUD/CRC) finances. Suggest you see ZAMKA when he returns (ETA anytime) and coordinate future division of responsibility." Also see 9/11/62:1994.05.19.15:26:13:720005: Reel 66, Folder E - AMBUD GENERAL. The preceding page is seen in redacted form. The next page is a translation by "Evvy" of Varona's televised comments after JFK's press conference of 9/13/62, claiming JFK has abandoned Cuba to Russia and asks: "Is the US waiting for the missiles to reach the White House in order to wake up?"
1994.06.24.14:32:37:630005: Reel 70, Folder I - AMBUD MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES
2/6/63 note by Evvy: Her note is critical of Artime's misstatement that he is a member of the CRC, since he is not - Evvy wants to protect CRC's reputation, especially due to internal strife - Nov 30 movement threatened to leave the group of Rodriguez Espada's UR faction was admitted. Evvy suggests that Miro/AMBUD-1 should issue a clarifying statement, since Artime was not a CRC member and what he was really doing was resigning as chief of the 2506 Brigade. The next page is a clip from the Miami Herald of that date with Artime's comments. See 104-10235-10282, a "note to Evalina" from an unknown officer with a series of suggestions about Miro Cardona and other prominent Cuban personalities.
