104-10102-10223: PROGRESS REPORT ON DEFECTION AND RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES

7/10/62 GYROSE Progress Report from Win Scott, chief of the Mexico City station to William Harvey, chief of Task Force W: To see that it is a GYROSE report, see 104-10103-10075. "Since around January 1960, Station Mexico has been involved in 11 defections and "recruitments" of Cuban officials...(The most important was Jose Pardo Llada, a non-embassy defector who was "popular" among the people)...Three of the recruitments were of importance. LITALUS-3 planted the original LIERODE microphones...LIOOZE-1...and REDACTED...The term "recruitment" has been placed in quotes to indicate that none of these agents were ideal from the standpoint of control, except LITALUS-3, who, although of low level, proved out in the fullest sense of a recruitment. Most of the recruitments were effected by proven Station assets, REDACTED, REDACTED, and LITALUS-2.
