104-10215-10266: MEMO VALENTIN V. BAKULIN

May 1963, Memorandum for the Record by SR/CI/A Bill Bright, Subject Valentin V. Bakulin: "It should be noted for the record that Subject, from January 1960 until July 1962, was the Mexican-based GRU case officer for LINEB-1, REDACTED...On 7 July 1962, subject turned LINEB-1 over to Vadim Aleksandrovich SHEYNOK, GRU officer under cover of the Soviet Commercial office in Mexico City."

104-10215-10259 CABLE: SUBJ DID NOT GO MEET SITE 16 AUG

8/24/63 cable MEXI 5898 from Mexico City to Director: "Subj did not go to meet site 16 Aug since flew to Los Angeles...went site on alternate 19 Aug and met for five minutes by his former GRU case officer Valentin Vasilyevich Bakulin. Sov greeted him effusively, said 'Sheynok not with us anymore.' (did not state expressly that Sheynok left PCS) Bakulin said he now taking over again, explained that Sheynok had replaced him because he (Bakulin) so busy in past...Sheynok left Mexi 29 July and has not returned. Family left Mexi for USSR 14 August. LIENVOY reporting not definitive, but family's departure appeared unplanned, no earmarks of usual pre-departure shopping, etc."

104-10062-10211: DISPATCH RE AGENT SERVICE RECORD

11/7/63 dispatch HMMA-22442 from Mexico City to WH Division, a copy went to SR/CI/A (Bill Bright): The Agent Service Record states that LIPLUG-1 and LIPLUG-2 were recruited by Prentice Marheine on 7/13/62. They were the "caretakers of LP (listening post) apartment and reporting agents (of) activities of two targets in apartment building." The reason for their dismissal on 10/23/63 - which was amicable - was because "both targets had moved from the apartment building."
